Night Hawk

by Ethel Mortenson Davis

How can I
tell you
what it feels like
to fall
from a cliff,
to fall
and still
be alive
to feel
the night air
on my face?

How can I
tell you
what it feels like
to fall from a cliff?

It’s like the sound
the night hawk
makes.
