Unfurrowing

by Ethel Mortenson Davis

The unfurrowing
of new leaves
is like a carefully
synchronized orchestra
with each musician
in exact harmony.

But we do not stand
and applaud.

Only Oriole gets up
and sings his splendid song,
dressed in brightly colored
vestments.
